The George Washington University is a private, federally chartered research university in Washington, D.C. The university’s campus is also home to the National Security Archive. It also hosts the Milken Institute School of Public Health.
The Colonials have a rich basketball history. GWU has drafted players in the NBA as well. J. R. Pinnock was the only Colonial drafted into the NBA in the 2006 NBA Draft. Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Mike Hall, and David Robinson have all played professionally. Some of their alumni are in the Hall of Fame, including former Colonials head coach Karl Hobbs. Yinka Dare spent two years at GWU before being drafted by the New Jersey Nets.
The university has fourteen colleges and schools. The Columbian College of Arts and Sciences was the first academic unit of the university. There are also medical schools and law schools, including the 11th-old Medical School in the country. The University is a member of the Washington Research Library Consortium, which allows the university to share resources between universities in the Washington area. Its Corcoran School of Arts and Design is the oldest in the country. There are also many other notable art museums in the city.
